Eddie needs no introduction if you know about fast and innovative guitar players. You will have heard his guitar playing on Van Halen's 1980s rock classic 'Jump'. Also on Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'. Yes, that's EVH's blistering guitar solo and deft rhythm work on that classic track.
Eddie introduced guitar techniques, tapping, and hammers and pulls to the world like never heard before and at breakneck speed. At the time of release, of Van Halen's 1978 debut album, people didn't know what Eddie was doing, so the only way was to go and find out at a live show. It however, caught on and before long there were Eddie impersonators everywhere and he had changed the face of guitar playing!
Eddie's guitar playing took the guitar world by storm. And he was the first rock guitarist since Hendrix to innovate on such a scale. Love or hate this style of playing, he was the original and arguably the best at it. R.I.P Eddie. A true guitar great.
