So, this time we have a great smaller bodied acoustic steel string guitar.
This is George Lowden's attempt at a parlour guitar. And what a fine attempt it is!
I recently sold my Martin HD 35 and bought this little beauty (see picture below).
It's a very impressive instrument. The sound is way larger than the size. It is usual for smaller bodied guitars to be 'boxy' sounding, but not this one. George Lowden has done a fine job in creating a smaller bodied guitar that still has that typical big Lowden sound, which is what Lowden guitars are known for. It has incredible sustain and complex harmonic overtones which make it perfect for both recording and performing.
Next, it needs a pickup fitting for live performance. I think I am going to go for the K and K mini which is great for fingerstyle and I'm hoping for strumming as well.
It seems a shame to drill this guitar to fit the jack, but I guess that it has to be done, unless you get a smaller size vintage style jack socket fitted, but I think the stage sound will suffer in this case.
Anyhow, if you are in the market for a smaller bodied professional acoustic, give a Wee Lowden a try, I think you will be impressed!
